Chatham Borough and Chatham Township are two towns with two different housing stories. We remodel bathrooms in both, and we handle the permit wherever it is filed.
Bathrooms in Chatham homes.
The Borough was mostly built before World War II around its train station. The Township grew later, as farms and nurseries turned into neighborhoods from the 1950s on.
Chatham Borough sits on the Morris and Essex line, one of the country's early commuter railroads, and most of its streets were built out before the war. Houses here are often older, with bathrooms that have been updated once or twice already.
Chatham Township's growth came after the war. Farmland, greenhouses and flower nurseries were sold off in the 1950s, and development continued through the 1960s and 1970s. Those houses tend to have more space, and their bathrooms are often original to the house.
So the same request, a bigger shower, can mean opening plaster walls in the Borough or replacing a 1960s tub and tile in the Township.
What that means for your remodel
- Borough homes: plaster, older drain lines and tight hall baths. We plan space carefully.
- Township homes: original 1950s-1970s bathrooms, often with mortar-bed tile and cast-iron tubs.
- Township primary baths usually have room to grow into a real suite.
- Every shower gets new waterproofing, never tile over old tile.
